Nurse or Maid Carinna

Ok, I lied. I don't intend on updating this thing. I just want to post whatever I want, whenever I want, as much or as little as I want. :)

Sometimes I wonder, how on Earth will the Lord one day make me a wife and mother? I'm sooo not domesticated. At all. I try now as a granddaughter and the only woman in the house (kind of), and I fail miserably. I can't cook, I can't bake, I can't fold fitted sheets (or tablecloths apparently), I don't like doing laundry, I can't stand Martha Stewart, I get frustrated with a 76 year old man asking me to do things for him CONSTANTLY, and the beat goes on. I CAN clean though. So what does that say about me? I'd make a great maid?? I'm not bummed about it really, I just don't know how I'll ever be able to manage a soccer mom lifestyle. Seriously, me? A soccer mom? Now, THAT's a scary thought. Like, when do these maternal instincts kick in? They must be buried somewhere beneath my cold, cold exterior.

Fortunately, I have plenty of time to worry about it because this oven isn't doing ANY baking for a loooooooong time. I'm still in the phase where I love playing with babies for a short period of time and also love that when they start screeching, I can hand them back to their mommies and daddies. I like this phase. I'll be here for awhile.

I really do intend on updating this thing, but I've come to the realization that it's a little difficult to keep up with more than one blog-ish website when your life is so terribly uneventful. Like... mine. Once I finally do update on the past month or so, I think I'll opt for no more posts until the nursing program gives me something to blog about. Laterrrr

Life. Is. Amazing. Updates later, my few readers.

"Summa summa summa tiiiime..."

Decided to try a new layout today, not sure if I like it yet... Yea or Nay?

Aside from my newly decorated blog, I actually have other updates! :O weird, right? I'll start with my new job. It's not the most thrilling but I can't complain too much... I get paid to pretty much play on my laptop all day =/ and when I'm actually put to work, the tasks I'm given usually only take up about half an hour MAX. if I had to describe any downsides to this job, they would be 1.)having to deal with certain people (who will remain nameless) that have major 'tudes at work, and 2.) just dealing with how boring the job actually is. But I suppose I shouldn't be talking about this publicly too much, should I?

Moving on...
summer classes start this Wednesday, and I'm actually looking forward to it. I need something to stimulate my mind since the promise of a boring summer is mentally stifling. Although I did enjoy this past weekend in Augusta :) Haven't seen my GCSU/Augusta friends in over a year, so it was really nice to relax and be goofy with them. Unfortunately I didn't capture any of those goofy moments, because I somehow forgot to take pictures while I was there... and usually, we can count on Laura to play photographer, but someone accidentally broke her camera :( poo poo! nonetheless, I had a good time. can't wait to see them again!

random blog moment: i hate the tissues that have Vicks vapor rub on them... UGH.

and, I guess that's about it... not too many updates after all. SHOCKER. Oh, Happy Memorial Day everyone. and Happy Birthday to my little brother Eric! who is... 11 today? Yes, I think that's right. I feel like a horrible sister when i can't remember exactly how old my siblings are, but can you blame me? There's six of them! I actually used to be better about it when I was younger, but it's hard to keep up with them now.

Anywhooo, should something interesting happen, I'll return with the deets. Until then, have a great Memorial Day everyone :)

C-Mart Out.

Stop the maaadness

OK. I'm not so self-absorbed to think that my professors spend all of their time thinking of ways to make my life miserable, but...

You know, what? Maybe they do. Maybe they all get together once a month with evil plans to swamp me with work ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Like this week, for example. WHY, I repeat, WHYYYY, do I have four tests within the next TWO days? WHYYYYYY??? Two tests tomorrow and two on Tuesday??? Crazyness, right? Well, you think that's bad? You just wait. There's mooooore... MORE TESTS, that is. The following week is FINALS, and I have THREE of them! ughhhhhhhh.

This is insanity, people. How could I not think they're all plotting against me? Sure, it could be a coincidence... but why must the same coincidences occur MONTHLY?? Sounds like a carefully planned sequence of events to me. How 'bout you?

Someone stop the madness, pleeeease.

Ok, rant over, and the never-ending studying continues.

Finally, a day worth mentioning

Time- 5:33 AM
Status- WIDE AWAKE
Problem- YES. It IS a problem.

This time normally doesn't exist for me. Well, actually it does. But I'm excluding those raaaaare times I've chosen to pull all-nighters. My body is no longer capable of so much awake time, which works out since I've fortunately managed to do my work on time (most of it). WHY AM I AWAKE?

Well, since I do not forsee any more sleep in my near future, I'll bring future Carinna and her readers up to speed with her present life. Yesterday was an amazing day! And as one of the amazing Dailey's pointed out to me, IT WAS A WEDNESDAY! Can you believe that?? Future Carinna, you had a GOOD Wednesday! You know, since normally Wednesdays (I could only assume) closely resemble days spent in Hell. A bit dramatic? I think not.

Morning: I had an interview for the office assistant position on campus and it went swimmingly. I got the job! The lady took a look at my sad resume and surprisingly was impressed! Which I suppose isn't too much of a surprise since the only other jobs I've had have been office assistant jobs... But anyway! I start Friday morning, YAY ME!

Afternoon: LAST DAY OF CHEM LAB! YAAAAAAY! This in itself is enough to make my day since I loooooathe chem lab. Surprisingly, it was one of the quickest labs we've gone through. Probably because I made sure to get started RIGHT AWAY. And the help of 3 other people in my group might have something to do with that as well...

Late afternoon but not quite evening: I napped in my car for 30 min. or less, couldn't take the heat. So I made my way to the library, checked my mail and found out that... ANATOMY LECTURE IS CANCELLED. Good Lord, seriously? Is this allowed? It's never been cancelled... Needless to say, I was thrilled to learn that Dr. Joy (whom, ironically is NOT a doctor of joy) cancelled class. YAAAAY.

Still not quite evening: I get home, play on facebook, talk to Jackie, and check my gmail. Because, duh, I'm a G. Anyway, I got an e-mail back from a babysitting job I had applied to the day before from a woman with 4 children (3 boys ages 3, 4, and 5 and 1 girl age 6, AHH I know) who needed a babysitter Friday evening and she asked if I was still available. So for any normal person with a brain, the answer would be either a polite "No" of some sort, no response, or a quick run in the other direction. But, being the nutcase I am, I decide to jump on this opportunity. Because, well, I'm a college student and... we're known to do just about anything for a quick buck. The pay sounds great, but I'm sure I'll learn what the REAL price is after having spent some time with these kids. Ha.

SO, are you keeping up? It's not that hard. Let me help you out.
One office assistant job + one babysitting job = 2 JOBS IN ONE DAY. Yes, that's correct. I'm that good. Ok, so they aren't the world's greatest jobs. But we're not focusing on the negative right now (we'll save that for next week... and the week after). TWO JOBS! That's two WHOLE jobs more than I had Tuesday. Amazing.

This concludes my amazing day. Which, to some, might not seem as great, but to me (someone who has THE most uneventful days and even weeks) THIS IS BIG. =D Big smiles today.

Ok, wide awake-ness has subsided. Fatigue is setting in. Back. to. bed. Good night, folks. Or good morning. Whatever.

Do our unanswered prayers turn into blessings?

Also from www.soulpancake.com...
"When the gods wish to punish us, they answer our prayers." —Oscar Wilde

List five of your prayers that were never answered. Any of them blessings in disguise?

I've prayed...
1. For one day to be reunited as a family with my siblings and my parents.
2. For Him to pick up my brothers and sister from the mess they've been placed in.
3. To keep Grammy alive.
4. For Him to help me understand Grandpa's habits (several times)
5. For patience.

Reuniting us a family is an absurd idea to begin with, so I see now why this prayer remains unanswered. My parents were just not cut out to raise seven children on their own. He did us a HUGE favor.

This leads me to my next unanswered prayer. It's a little hard for me to turn this one into a blessing. A few things come to mind though. While them living with my uncle is not what I would've planned for their future, one obvious blessing that has come from this is that they are all together and have each other. Child services could have taken them away and placed them into separate foster homes and I may not hear from them as much as I do now. Thank you, Lord for that. Also, a less obvious blessing and much more specific to one of my brothers is that Ernie has found God. He's devoted his life to praising Him and embracing Him through his religion. Without his new friends this may not have been possible. I couldn't be happier about this.

Numero tres: my Grammy was very much a mother to me. Anything my mom couldn't provide for me, Grammy did that and so much more. So naturally, when she was in her later stages of Alzheimer's I was heartbroken watching her rapidly decline right before my eyes. Of course I know now it was selfish of me to want her here while she's suffering. That wasn't Grammy. It was sick Grammy. But she is definitely much happier watching over with me from a better place.

Unanswered prayer numero cuatro: I will never understand my Grandpa. And Lord knows I've tried. And tried. And tried. The blessing I gather from this is that fact alone. It leads me to just accept the fact that he is set in his ways and has been for yeeears. Of course I'm sure senility and old age are factors as well. He's blessed me with default patience. Yes, I said default patience. I develop patience ONLY by default because there's absolutely nothing else I can do, BUT be patient.

Which brings me to my last unanswered prayer: patience. I know I just said He blessed with me patience, but really only sparingly. I don't think I'll ever develop absolute patience. Who does? Who can honestly say they are patient 100% of the time? No one I know. Because that would mean they've developed patience for me. And well, that my friends, is a tough task in itself. So, if you are one of the few oddballs who is patient 100% of the time, I hope you know you're hogging all of the patience, and that just isn't fair. But I digress. I'm not quite sure how this is a blessing. Maybe the lack of patience brings about other good qualities in me. None of which are ringing a bell at the moment. But perhaps when I think of some I'll come back to this and revise.

From these and many other unanswered prayers came beautiful blessings from God that I otherwise might never have asked for. So in a way, God did answer these prayers. He just interpreted them differently and carried them out in His own way. Awesome.

Now, for my few readers out there you try this :) It's a great way to turn around a pessimistic attitude.

God is great, God is good

I was thinking about how just how great and just how good God truly is. And then, while browsing www.soulpancake.com I came across this Weezer video...

Sleep walking dog

Because we're all amused by animals and their sleep-related problems...

Dooce again

I found this on Heather Armstrong's blog and it made me laugh :)

Foreign policy

I was just reading a news story on a celebrity gossip website about Angelina Jolie's rumored plans to adopt her next baby from India, and when I glanced down at the comments I was expecting to see the usual griping about how her family resembles a traveling circus or SHILOH IS SO CUTE! or YUCK SHE KISSED HER BROTHER WHATEVER. But the very first comment was left by a more profoundly concerned citizen of the world who asked, "WHY IS IT NEVER A MEXICAN??!!"

That comment totally made my day.

Momversation

I've always been so interested in the way our bodies work and even more interested in the miracle of giving birth. Not only that but everything about our reproductive systems just fascinates me. I especially love learning about the inner workings of our brains in regards to our emotions, pleasures, and how we subconsciously choose a mate. I honestly could read about it for hours. I sometimes wonder why I seriously decided to change my major from psychology to nursing. And now when I really think about it, I guess it was a smart decision. Aside from the fact that I simply cannot see myself as a psychologist, it would take much longer for me to actually become a psychologist than it would to become a nurse. And even though I'd be making bank, I'd get bored pretty quickly. Besides, I'm sure I'll learn much more dealing with lots of patients as a nurse than I would having a few long-term clients as a psychologist.

Anyway my original purpose for this blog was to mention Heather B. Armstrong, the mommy blogger, and the "momversations" she and other mommy bloggers engage in on http://www.momversation.com. I know I'm not a mom yet but I do like listening to women who are and how they choose to raise their children, etc. Yes, I'm lame and I'm proud of it :P I also watch Oprah when I can, don't hate. Anywho, when I do decide to squeeze out a few puppies, I'll video-blog my mommy opinions and become a mommy blogger as well :) I honestly can't wait to be a mother. Not because I feel I have so much knowledge to pass down, (because Lord knows I don't) but because I can't wait to love and nurture a little miracle that my significant other and I will have created. It truly is a miracle. I mean REALLY. The chances of an egg implanting aren't as great as one would think. But I digress. And I really should be studying anatomy instead of writing about it here, where no one reads or cares about it. So... off I go. Fa sho.

Love, peace
and chicken grease.

Still haven't gone to bed

Just a few blogs that keep me entertained:

Hello blogger...

Sorry for the long absence. I tried the tumblr world for awhile and decided it's nothing special. I can't leave rude comments on other blogs and only one person I know uses it. So, I've rejoined the blogger world. I don't know what I was thinking when I titled my blog, "Our Pleasures are Shallow," but until I think of something better this is what it shall be. When I'm not so lazy and sleep-deprived I'll transfer most of my posts from tumblr onto this blog. For now I am headed to bed. Good night :)
