Almost 3 months later, and I still suck at this. Sorrry. But, my lack of commitment to this blog IS consistent with my lazy personality... so I take back my apology. For I am simply being myself :) Anyway, life as a nursing student is slowly getting busier. Still trying to find where I fit into all of this. But somehow, having fun along the way. Found some good friends, and I've found some of the world's most annoying people. Lucky me! The "story tellers" in class ramble on and on for what seems like an entire class period about their own lives in relation to the topic material. And sometimes COMPLETELY unrelated to the topic. There are some who share comments with no point and no questions to ask. They talk just to talk. Verrrry sloooOOoooowly too. And I'm sorry but there are those who speak like they're terribly unintelligent. And maybe you are. And that's ok. Just don't interrupt a nutrition lesson to tell me about how yo sistah be eatin' bad foods all tha time. And there's one person who has a throat clearing obsession and the magnitude of this unnecessary habit is elevated during an exam. So much that our professor became annoyed by it and asks "does someone need a lozenge? inhaler, maybe?" Best moment thus far.
I do like the majority of the people and those of us who do not fit into the categories above will be getting together for a potluck/hangout/desperate-attempt-to-have a-social life-"party" Friday night and I'm pretty exciiiiited :) It'll be a good time to do what we always do when we're together: talk about people we can't stand. Only this time we can eat, listen to music, and play board games while we're doing it. Can't wait! This is our last week of freedom before summer break and before prison clinicals start in a couple weeks :/ Which, btw I'm bummed I didn't get Fayette! But glad I'll be with Morgan at Southern Regional. So there's my little update, I may have more to rant once the "fun" stuff starts soon. Laterrr

The end of my life, as I know it?
For the next two years this blog will hopefully become one of the healthy non-addictive ways I'll relieve my inevitable anxiety. As I approach the end of my life as I know it (said with a BIG sarcastic grin), I'm actually pretty freaken excited. Excited to FINALLY be doing what I've been working towards. Finally done with crap classes like INTERACTIVE COMMUNICATIONS, and CRITICAL THINKING, and other useless classes I fought to stay awake in. On to health assessment and health illness transitions! On to learning how to properly wash my hands and take temps and BP's! I'm really excited to use the practice $1000+ dummies that bleed and ooze fluids when you prick them. Saweeet. And of course excited to use my looovely friends and family as guinea pigs (*evil laugh*) wuuhuu!
Don't get me wrong, I'm fully aware of the crying spells in the car after lab and lecture that are to come. Fortunately, or unfortunately, (however you want to look at it) that's nothing new to me. BUT, reasons for the spells will be better justified than the "woe is me, my life sucks" reasons. Crying because I can't remember the uses and effects of certain drugs is better. In my opinion, at least.
I just feel like I'm actually about to do something worthwhile. And hopefully learn not only to be a caring and competent nurse, but also to grow as an individual. I'm a sponge ready to soak up anything and everything that comes my way but I'm also ready to utilize those concepts and expand my thought process, and I know being apart of this will definitely prepare me for that. The orientation today made me realize just how much of a privilege it is to say that I'm in this program. I was chosen among a couple hundred applicants to be given a chance to make an impact not only on the lives of future patients, but also in the community. And for that, I'm truly grateful. I'm not entirely sure how I got here, it all happened so fast. I must have done something right, I suppose. But I definitely have the Lord to thank for bringing me this far. I honestly never thought I'd be here. He's blessed me with a wonderful support system who have been there for me from day one. He's brought new and amazing people in my life in the past year, who've kept me level-headed and without whom I may have gone insane. I couldn't be happier with where I'm at, and I look forward to these four exciting semesters. To any of you who have helped in any way at all, thank you. Thank you for caring. Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for listening. I probably don't say it enough, but I love you all. My friends, my family and my love, you are the backbone of my life and my everything.
Anyway, I hope to update this thing by the end of every week (time permitting). I'd like to take you with me on my journey to becoming a nurse, so to speak. Whoever "you" may be. Even if there's no "you" to read my blog, I'd like to look back on this and laugh at how stressed I get and how many arms I bruise trying to find that damn vein!
Peeeeace.
